Spanish Magazine’s front page depiction of Michelle Obama as a naked Negress slave.
A Spanish periodical called ‘Magazine de Fuera de Serie’, has caused some furor by featuring ‘artwork’ on its cover page which depicts Michelle Obama as a semi-nude African slave on the cover of its latest issue.
The ‘artwork’ is in fact the face of Michelle Obama superimposed on an iconic piece by French neoclassical painter Marie – Guillemine Benoist.
Karine Percheron-Daniels who has defended her ‘artwork’ saying she’s certain the First Lady would love it, also has an accompanying article to the picture titled “Michelle Granddaughter of a Slave, lady of America”
Despite justifications that the original piece called ‘Potrait d’une negresse’ is meant to symbolize emancipation and empowerment; many people have come out to condemn the depiction calling it racist and anachronistic.
