I love gymnastics! And it was that love that saw me watching in awe last night, Gabby Douglas’ mind blowing performance which earned her two well deserved gold medals at the ongoing Olympic games in London (and has earned her the nickname ‘the flying squirrel’)
So imagine my consternation this morning when I wake up and I find out that instead of celebrating her, some faceless people on Twitter have been poking fun at her because of her hair!
The hair style that is the subject of Twitter ‘critic’s debate.
‘Critics’ are arguing that her locks should have been put into tight, ballerina-style bun that gymnasts usually tuck their hair into.
Are you seriously kidding me?!
This beautiful 16 year old wins a gold medal – the first African American to win in this category mind you, and all that some people are concerned about is her hair?
And you know what makes this even worse? it’s people from her own community who are criticizing her.
I don’t get this fascination we have with styling our hair – there’s so much more to life and I hope those ‘critics’ get a life.
