Court hears how parents stuffed their 17 year old daughter’s mouth with nylon and suffocated her in “honor killing”
In February 2004, the decomposed remains of 17 year old Shafilea Ahmed were discovered in Cumbria but it was not until 2010 that her sister Alesha finally helped police solve the mystery surrounding her disappearance and death.
Alesha, who is currently in witness protection while awaiting sentencing on a robbery charge; divulged this long held family secret after being arrested in connection with an armed robbery attack on her parents home. But according to her lawyer, ‘She hasn’t received any promises or indeed any inducement prior to when she first made these allegations
According to Alesha, her parents murdered their ‘Westernised’ teenage daughter because they believed her conduct was bringing shame on the family.
Frustrated with their teenage daughter’s desire to have boyfriends, dress in a western manner and her suicide attempt after being flown to Pakistan for an arranged marriage; Iftikhar and Farzana Ahmed forced their daughter down in their kitchen, pushed a nylon bag into her mouth, watching while she suffocated and died.
Her body was then wrapped up and dumped in the site where it was subsequently found.
Shafilea was described as a normal teen, a good student who was keen to study Law and enjoyed shopping at the malls.
At the time her remains were found and her house searched, these lyrics penned by her were found – giving officers a glimpse into her frustrations with her life.
Iftikhar and Farzana Ahmed deny killing their daughter as the case continues.
